Esrom Nyandoro to Auction Iconic Jerseys for Charity in Johannesburg

The high-profile charity event will take place on December 13 at a Johannesburg hotel.

From Covid Relief to Education Support

According to foundation spokesperson Vimbai Ndlovu, Nyandoro’s philanthropic journey began during the Covid-19 lockdowns, when he donated 240 bags of mealie-meal to vulnerable families in Bulawayo. The response encouraged him to take his work further.

When Covid-19 ended, Nyandoro explored what else he could do. He chose education and started assisting children with school fees. Many parents had lost jobs and could not afford to keep their children in school,” Ndlovu said.

The foundation now pays school fees for 20 primary and secondary learners, while another 30 students are being supported in tertiary studies.

Some beneficiaries have excelled academically, with one student earning 11 A-Level points and pursuing tourism and hospitality studies at Andreas Training Centre in Bulawayo.

Legendary Jerseys Go Under the Hammer

One of the standout items up for auction is the iconic Warriors jersey Nyandoro wore when he scored a memorable long-range strike against Cameroon at the 2004 Afcon finals — a goal still celebrated as one of the tournament’s finest.

Nyandoro, who rose from the streets of Mzilikazi to a decorated career at Mamelodi Sundowns, AmaZulu, and the national team, says the initiative is driven by one goal:

“I want charity to win.”

Gala Dinner to Honour Community Champions

The fundraising gala will include live performances, a call for donations, and table packages priced at R4 000. The event will attract members of the football community as well as Zimbabweans living in Johannesburg.

Ndlovu added that the evening will also shine a spotlight on women making a difference:

We will honour six women who have made an outstanding impact in uplifting the Girl Child, including some from Zimbabwe.”

The funds raised will support the foundation’s education programmes for the 2026 school year, with special focus on Mzilikazi High School — Nyandoro’s former school.
