Government Launches ‘One Pupil, One Tablet’ Initiative to Boost ICT in Schools

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Honourable Torerayi Moyo, has announced that Zimbabwe will launch the ambitious “One Pupil, One Tablet – One Student, One Laptop” programme nationwide next year.

The initiative aims to modernise learning in both primary and secondary schools by providing students with personal digital devices, ensuring access to technology and online resources across urban and rural areas.

Thousands of Devices and Internet Kits to Be Rolled Out

Speaking at Hippo Valley Estates Primary School in Chiredzi, Minister Moyo revealed that over 15,000 internet connectivity kits have already been procured, with 9,000 set for distribution to schools across the country.

The programme will provide laptops, tablets, and iPads to pupils, coupled with solar kits for rural schools through the Presidential solarisation scheme, ensuring that no student or region is left behind.

Every pupil will have a digital tool. This investment aligns with our drive for digital transformation in education and is supported by the largest education budget in the 2026 financial year,” said Minister Moyo 

Community Welcomes Digital Transformation

Parents and school authorities have praised the programme as a critical step towards bridging the digital divide between urban and rural schools.

Our children will now be more exposed to the electronic world, which the world is moving towards, and there is no way we can be left behind,” said one parent.

A community member added,

This initiative aligns with the national development plan, giving every child exposure to emerging technologies.”

Hippo Valley Estates Primary School Head, Julia Madzudzo, emphasised the school’s commitment to digital education:

“We are fully integrating technology into all six learning areas to ensure our pupils are prepared for the future.”
