Africa’s Strongest Woman Chido Maenzanise Appeals For Urgent Financial Aid To Participate In World Championship

Chido Maenzanise Needs US$15 000 To Carry Africa’s Flag At World Championships

Africa’s strongest woman, Chido Maenzanise, has made an urgent appeal for financial assistance after winning the continental title and securing an invitation to compete at the World Strongwoman Championship in Dubai. Fresh from her African triumph, the Zimbabwean athlete now needs US$15 000 (about R285 000) to cover travel, accommodation, competition fees and other related costs, with her departure scheduled for 5 February.

The appeal comes as the countdown to the world event intensifies, with supporters warning that the funding gap could prevent her from representing Zimbabwe on the global stage despite her historic achievement in 2025.

Urgent Appeal As Departure Date Nears

The call for support was amplified by Temba P. Mliswa, who took to X to draw attention to Maenzanise’s situation and the tight timeline she is facing.

Introducing the appeal, Mliswa said:

“APPEAL SOS: Zimbabwe’s strongwoman Chido Maenzanise has an urgent need for assistance. She conquered Africa and has now been invited for the World Competition in Dubai and is in need of US$15 000 (about R285 000) urgently to cover everything.”

He highlighted the urgency linked to her travel plans.

“She is supposed to leave on 5 February so she needs to buy tickets as soon as possible.”

Mliswa also disclosed that while he had pledged some support, the bulk of the funds are still outstanding.

“For now I can give her US$2 000 (about R38 000) and this still leaves an urgent need for the balance.”

From Continental Glory To Global Stage

Maenzanise earned her place at the world championship after a dominant showing at the Eastrand Strongest competition in South Africa on 25 October 2025. She competed against 12 athletes in the Open Category, taking on physically demanding events such as the lever deadlift, vehicle push, circus dumbbell, dinner stones and the log ladder.

Speaking to Zim Now after her victory, Maenzanise described the emotional journey behind her win.

“I’m feeling happy and excited because I was the only black woman competing. At first, I wasn’t comfortable, and I didn’t do well in my first performance.”

She explained how representing Zimbabwe became her motivation.

“But then I remembered that I wasn’t just doing this for myself — I was doing it for my beloved nation, Zimbabwe. I was the only one representing the country, so I had to push hard. And I’m happy I brought home the gold.”

Support And Recognition Pour In

Her victory sparked widespread celebration across social media and sporting circles. Kyros Sports hailed her achievement and global ranking.

“A huge congratulations to Chido Maenzanise on earning the title of Africa’s strongest woman. Well done!! Zim’s Strong Woman is now ranked 21 in the world.”

The Sports and Recreation Commission of Zimbabwe (SRC) also acknowledged her success, confirming her qualification for the world championships following the African contest held in South Africa.

Despite the recognition, Maenzanise’s participation now hinges on urgent financial backing, with supporters urging individuals and organisations to step forward before the February deadline.
