Air Zimbabwe Reveals Harare To Mutare Flights And Fares For 2025 Expo

The national carrier, Air Zimbabwe, has revealed its airfare prices and detailed flight schedule for a new route connecting Harare to Mutare. The special flights are set to operate during the upcoming Sanganai Hlanganani Travel Expo in September 2025, offering a swift 30-minute journey to the Eastern Highlands.

The airline’s advertised fares start from US$85 (approximately R 1,615) for a one-way ticket and US$150 (approximately R 2,850) for a return journey.

Detailed Flight Schedule For Expo Travellers

Air Zimbabwe has released a comprehensive schedule for the special Mutare flights operating during the Sanganai Hlanganani Travel Expo from 8th to 14th September 2025. The schedule features multiple daily flights between Harare and Mutare, providing convenient options for expo attendees.

The airline confirmed:

“Harare to Mutare one-way will cost US$85 (R1,550), while return fares are pegged at US$150 (R2,735). Mutare to Victoria Falls fares start at US$179 (R3,265) one-way and US$310 (R5,660) return.”

Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana also highlighted the development posting,

“MUTARE NENDEGE – Harare to Mutare 1Way US$85. Return US$150. Mutare to Victoria Falls US$179. Return US$310.”

The confirmed flight timetable is as follows:

• Harare to Mutare: Departure 07:00 – Arrival 07:30

• Mutare to Harare: Departure 08:00 – Arrival 08:30

• Harare to Victoria Falls: Departure 09:15 – Arrival 10:45

• Victoria Falls to Harare: Departure 14:15 – Arrival 15:45

• Harare to Mutare: Departure 16:30 – Arrival 17:00

• Mutare to Harare: Departure 17:30 – Arrival 18:00

 In a post on X dated Sunday, 1st September 2025, consumer watchdog Zimpricecheck confirmed the details, stating:

“During the Expo, flights to Mutare will cost US$85 one-way and US$150 return. The journey takes about 30 minutes!”

Public Reaction: Excitement Meets Scepticism

The news was met with a wave of mixed reactions online. While many celebrated the return of air travel to Mutare, a significant number of users questioned the high cost, the state of the Mutare airport infrastructure, and the airline’s reliability.

One major point of discussion was the price comparison with other modes of transport. User Zimpricecheck provided context, noting:

“For comparison, bus travel to Mutare costs US$7-8, and driving (in a non-hybrid Honda Fit, Vitz, or Note) is around US$40.”

Many users compared the fares to international routes. User Simpleton @FariPasi exclaimed on X:

“Madness! Return flight to Munich from London costs USD115 and air Zim is charging more than double the fare for a domestic flight that is a fifth the distance.”
