Alick Macheso Presses On With Mozambique Show Days After Road Accident

Macheso Heads To Mozambique Days After Harare-Mutoko Accident

Alick Macheso has moved to calm fans after a road traffic accident threatened to derail his upcoming international performance. The sungura giant is pushing ahead with a headline slot at Mozambique’s Independence Celebrations in Manica this Friday.

Speaking to H-Metro on Wednesday, the musician confirmed he is in good health and has no intention of cancelling any scheduled appearances.

The Road Incident And Immediate Fallout

The accident occurred along the Harare-Mutoko highway on Sunday as Macheso returned from a musical show. Photographs of his extensively damaged vehicle circulated widely on social media, triggering an outpouring of concern from followers and industry figures alike.

Addressing the speculation directly, Macheso expressed gratitude for the support while firmly dismissing any suggestion of withdrawing from his commitments.

“I’m really grateful and appreciate the concern from my fans, family, friends and stakeholders,” Macheso told H-Metro. “Let me assure them once again that I’m fine and ready to proceed with our shows as scheduled. I really understand their concerns, considering what they might have seen on social media.”

The musician reflected on the gravity of the crash without downplaying its seriousness.

“It’s not an incident to take lightly and like what I said before, ndinotenda musiki nekutirwira mumweya yerima (I thank the creator for protecting us in the dark spirit),” he said.

Preparations For Mozambique Gather Pace

Macheso travels with his sons Esau and Tatenda, backed by the Cheso Boys. The Manica performance forms part of Mozambique’s national independence festivities, where the Zimbabwean star commands a loyal following.

Tich Makahamadze, Macheso’s publicist, confirmed that logistics remain on track.

“From our end everything is going on well and we are ready for the show in Mozambique this Friday where we also command a huge following,” Makahamadze said.

He stressed that the official position remains unchanged since Sunday.

“In terms of Mopao, nothing has changed from what we said on the day of the accident and the statement we further issued. Actually, he can’t wait to meet his fans again, especially in Mozambique. This is a show being organised by a promoter and from our communication we are looking forward to a successful event.”

Faith And Fan Support Remain Central

Macheso credited the prayers of his supporters as a source of resilience.

“The prayers from the fans, family and friends always protect us and keep us strong,” he said, reinforcing his readiness to return to the stage without delay.

Mozambique Independence Show Set To Host Music Legends

Briefly News previously reported that Mozambique’s Independence Celebrations routinely draw top Southern African acts to Manica province. The annual event serves as a major platform for cross-border cultural exchange, with Zimbabwean musicians frequently headlining alongside local performers.

The gathering attracts thousands of revellers and is regarded as one of the key dates on the regional entertainment calendar. Macheso’s inclusion this year underscores his enduring pulling power beyond Zimbabwe’s borders.
