Andy Rinomhota reveals the position he wants to play for Reading this season

Andy Rinomhota has opened up about his preferred role ahead of Reading’s new campaign, revealing where he believes he performs best.

The Zimbabwe Warriors midfielder has built a reputation for his versatility throughout his career. As a result, he has impressed in both central midfield and at right-back whenever called upon.

However, the 29-year-old believes the middle of the park remains his strongest position.

Rinomhota names his preferred position

Speaking to the Reading Chronicle, Rinomhota explained that central midfield feels like his natural home, although he remains happy to help wherever needed.

He said: “I’ve played both in the past, probably the majority of my career I’ve played centre mid, I probably do prefer that, I don’t mind playing right back.

“So it just depends on how the season is looking, personnel, but I would say more so centre mid unless something changes and then having to fill in that right back.

“I’m capable of doing it [playing right-back] and wherever I can get games and whatever the gaffer needs me to play.”

His comments highlight his willingness to put the team’s needs ahead of personal preference. At the same time, they confirm his desire to feature regularly in midfield.

Fresh start after difficult season

Meanwhile, Rinomhota heads into the new season with renewed confidence after extending his stay at Reading.

The Zimbabwe international endured a challenging previous campaign. Injuries and personal circumstances disrupted his momentum for long periods.

Nevertheless, his new contract offers a fresh opportunity to rebuild consistency and make a bigger impact.

If he stays fit, Rinomhota will hope to establish himself in Reading’s midfield and become a key figure throughout the season.
