Hugo Broos excluded all Kaizer Chiefs players from his 37-man preliminary Bafana Bafana squad. The national team will face Panama in two friendly matches later this month. These games will help the team prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The first match takes place on 27 March 2026 in Durban. Moses Mabhida Stadium will host the match at 19:00.
Afterwards, the teams travel to Cape Town for another clash. The second match happens on 31 March 2026 at DHL Stadium. Kick-off for the Cape Town game is set for 19:30.
Chiefs Continue to Miss Out on National Selection
This is not the first time Broos excluded Kaizer Chiefs players. Since 2024, Bafana squads often lacked representation from the club.
Consequently, many Chiefs supporters have voiced frustration about these selections. Last year, Broos explained his decision clearly. He said Chiefs were not performing like Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
In addition, his final Africa Cup of Nations squad included no Chiefs players. Now, the trend appears to continue ahead of the World Cup.
Pirates and Sundowns Dominate Bafana Squad
Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs have struggled in recent matches. The team lost four consecutive games across all competitions.
Therefore, their absence from the squad surprises few observers. In contrast, Orlando Pirates have eleven players in the preliminary squad. Mamelodi Sundowns also enjoy strong representation in the squad.
However, the current squad will not remain unchanged. Broos will reduce the group to 23 players soon.
He hopes to finalise his strongest squad before the World Cup.
