Bhola Heavily Fined For Selling Unapproved Medicines

Glidwell Trading, trading as Bhola Hardware City, has been fined US$300. The conviction followed a breach of the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act.

Harare magistrate Gamuchirai Gore delivered the ruling after reviewing the evidence. The court found the company guilty of possessing medicines intended for sale.

The company appeared in court through its manager, Bhavik Kanttial Jassa, aged 32. Mandirasa Chigumira led the prosecution during the proceedings.

CID Detectives Act on Tip-Off

On 21 July, detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics Unit received a tip-off. The report alleged that Bhola Hardware City was selling unapproved complementary medicines.

Following the report, detectives quickly set up surveillance at Bhola Mega Market. They carefully observed the shop and confirmed the sale of the suspected products.

Soon after, the officers approached Jassa and identified themselves. They clearly informed him about their intention to search the premises.

During the search, officers recovered 587 bottles of Tsunami, each measuring three millilitres. They also seized 161 tins of Essential Balm, each weighing 19 grammes.

Zimbabwe’s regulatory authority classifies both products as unapproved complementary medicines. The officers found the items on open shelves and inside a glass display cabinet.

As a result, officers arrested Jassa at the scene without delay. They escorted him, together with the seized items, to the CID offices for investigation.
