Bulawayo Building Fire Sends Smoke Across CBD
A fire broke out at a building along Leopard Takawira Avenue in Bulawayo on Wednesday afternoon, August 26, 2026, sending thick smoke into the city centre and prompting a response from the Bulawayo Fire Brigade.
The building is located between George Silundika Street and Fife Street, next to Selbourne Hotel. The fire was reported at about 1.15 pm.

Bulawayo Fire Brigade Rushes To Scene
The blaze attracted attention from people working and moving around the central business district.
A witness told the Chronicle that smoke was clearly visible from nearby buildings.
“The building that is burning is next to Selbourne Hotel and I can see clouds of smoke from the building where I work, which is about two streets away from the site of the fire.”
The witness said she later heard sirens as fire engines reportedly made their way towards the affected building.

Fire Damage And Cause Not Yet Known
The extent of the damage had not been established by the time of publication. The cause of the fire was also not immediately known.
Emergency services were expected to assess the situation and determine the extent of the incident.
