A Bulawayo drug kingpin has been sentenced to five years in jail for dealing in crystal meth. The 39-year-old man, identified as Tyron Siegfried Pigors of Matsheumhlophe, was convicted by the Bulawayo Regional Court for unlawful possession and distribution of the dangerous drug.
Arrested In March, Sentenced In September
According to ZBC News, Pigors was initially sentenced to eight years, but three years were suspended on condition of good behaviour. He will serve an effective five years behind bars.
He was arrested on 6 March 2025 after police found 1.2 kilogrammes of crystal meth worth more than US$6,000 (about R108,000) hidden in his house.
Presiding magistrate Sibonginkosi Mkandla said:
“The convict’s actions posed a serious threat to society. A custodial sentence was necessary.”
Police Raid Uncovered Drugs In March
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) stated that Pigors was apprehended following a tip-off. Officers raided his Matsheumhlophe home and discovered sachets of crystal meth concealed in unusual hiding spots.
A police spokesperson explained:
“The drugs were recovered from a fake dictionary safe box under the bed, a biscuit box, and a Puma shoe box placed inside a trunk. Two digital scales and a kitchen scale were also seized.”
The discovery pointed to an organised operation feeding the drug problem in the city.

Public Debate Between March Arrest And October Sentence
The arrest and sentencing follow months of public concern over the spread of crystal meth, locally known as “mutoriro” or “guka.” Reports indicate the drug is widely used by youths in Zimbabwe, with devastating social and health consequences.
A Bulawayo drug counsellor told ZBC News:
“We are seeing a rise in cases linked to crystal meth addiction. Families are being torn apart, and communities are suffering.”
On social media, some Zimbabweans expressed mixed reactions when Pigors was first arrested in March.
One user, MaleFromNyasaland (@sparetwirra), wrote:
“If he was black there’d be no fanta & bottled water by his side..sitting on nice chair doing a photo shoot like this. His face is not even swollen or bruised. Labbish!”
Others, however, praised the police.

“Well done ZRP! This is excellent work. These drugs are ravaging communities.”
