Bulawayo Security Boss Accused of Fondling Guard’s Bums
The operations manager of a Bulawayo security company has landed in court after allegedly groping a female subordinate in his office.
Christian Thomas (61), who works at Tacktop Security Company, is accused of sexually assaulting a 31-year-old female security guard while she was on duty.
Prosecutors say that on 5 June 2025, Thomas called the guard to his office and instructed her to open the windows. While she was busy with the task, he allegedly came up behind her and fondled her buttocks without warning.
Shocked and uncomfortable, the woman says she pushed him away and returned to her post as if nothing had happened. Six days later, she reported the incident to the police.
When the case appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Itai Kagwere, Thomas, represented by lawyer Task Vhiki, denied the charge of indecent sexual assault.
The defence argued that the complaint was fabricated after the woman was told she would be transferred to Gwanda. According to Vhiki, she absconded from work and, when Thomas called to ask when she would return, she said she would come to hand in her uniform instead. The lawyer claimed she only filed the police report to get back at Thomas.
Taking the stand, the woman told the court she regarded Thomas as a father figure and had trusted him. She said that on the day in question, he summoned her to open the windows in his office, then entered and slapped her on the buttocks.
She said she immediately reported the matter to her superior, Inspector Abigirl Nezera. The victim also alleged that Thomas had a history of inappropriate behaviour, including asking her for kisses and hugs.
According to her testimony, she refused the transfer to Gwanda because Thomas told her in isiNdebele, “siyabe sitshontshisa khonangale”, which she translated as “we will have an illicit affair there”. After she declined, she said Thomas told her her contract was terminated.
The matter continues in court.
