‘By grace of god will do the job’: Kaizer Chiefs icon Willard Katsande wants top Zim coaching job

Willard Katsande spent ten years at Kaizer Chiefs after arriving from Ajax Cape Town as an unknown player. He left the club as a legend, giving everything in every match he played. After retiring, he briefly played for Sekhukhune United before ending his playing career. Since then, Katsande has steadily built his coaching pathway.

He founded Kitoko Soccer School, which now operates under SAFA structures. Through this project, he focuses on youth development and long-term player growth. Katsande also represented Zimbabwe at senior level and captained the team at AFCON 2017.

Zimbabwe Under-23 Role Comes Into Focus

Reports initially described Katsande’s link to the Zimbabwe Under-23 job as rumours. However, his coaching profile has steadily attracted attention. Sources indicate his CV was submitted to ZIFA for consideration. Some technical committee members have reportedly endorsed his name.

Katsande holds two CAF coaching badges and continues to pursue further education. He has also built a player database for Zimbabwe’s youth national teams. This work strengthens his credentials as a development-focused coach.

Katsande Confirms Coaching Desire

Katsande later confirmed his ambition through a Facebook post. He wrote, “By GRACE of GOD will do the job”. The message ended speculation and showed his readiness to serve.

Zimbabwe’s Young Warriors face 2027 Under-23 AFCON qualifiers. Success would open a pathway to the 2028 Olympic Games. The team will also contest qualifiers for the 2027 African Games in Egypt.
