Chegutu Woman Killed After Rejecting A Love Proposal
A 24-year-old Chegutu woman died after being stabbed in the thigh by a man who attacked her after she rejected his romantic advances.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a manhunt for the suspect, identified only as “Gunners”, following the fatal incident on Thursday, 24 September 2026.

Woman dies in hospital
The incident reportedly occurred at a house in Chegutu, where Gunners stabbed Omega Matope in the left thigh.
Matope was rushed to Chegutu District Hospital for medical treatment but died upon admission.
Police said the stabbing followed the victim’s rejection of the suspect’s love proposal.
Police appeal for information
The ZRP is appealing to members of the public who may have information that could help investigators locate and arrest Gunners.
Police have urged anyone who may know the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward.

Plumtree Man Attacks Woman After Third Rejection
A separate case from Plumtree highlights another incident in which a woman was attacked after rejecting a man’s romantic advances. Mhlalisi Ngwenya was arrested after throwing stones at Future Ndebele, injuring her leg following her third rejection of his attempts to pursue a relationship.
Ngwenya first approached Ndebele with a love proposal in May 2023, but she turned him down. Despite the rejection, he reportedly continued pursuing her and later made another attempt to court her.
Ndebele rejected him for a second time, but Ngwenya did not stop. On 7 October 2023, he approached her again and made another attempt to win her over.
When Ndebele rejected his advances for the third time, Ngwenya became violent and threw stones at her, striking her on the leg and causing injuries.
The matter was subsequently brought before the courts, with Ngwenya facing charges arising from the assault.
