Chinese Embassy Warns Zimbabweans About Fake Visa Agents

The Chinese Embassy issued an urgent public notice in Zimbabwe, warning applicants that it does not work with any agents, intermediaries, or individuals for visa submissions. The notice emphasised that the public must rely strictly on official channels for all consular services.

Embassy Clarifies Visa Procedures

According to the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe, it has never authorised outside assistance for visa applications. In a notice published on 14 November 2025, the embassy stated clearly:

“The Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe hereby informs the public that it has not authorised or appointed any agent, intermediary, or individual to handle or assist with consular document-related services on its behalf.”

The embassy explained that all authorised information, including detailed visa procedures, is available transparently on its verified website. It urged applicants to consult its official platforms for up-to-date guidance.

The public notice added that the visa application process remains straightforward and that applicants should avoid relying on unofficial sources for information.

Official Fees And Payment Rules

The embassy reminded applicants that fees are only paid after a visa has been approved and is ready for collection. It stressed that no payment should be requested at earlier stages of the process. The notice provided the official fee schedule as follows:

“Visa fee: US$45 (approximately R900.
Express service (2–3 working days): US$25 (approximately R500 ).
Rush service (1 working day): US$37 (approximately R740).”

It further advised that all applications must be submitted exclusively through the official global portal for Chinese visa services.

Ambassador Highlights Overcharging Concerns

Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding reinforced the embassy’s concerns in a statement on Friday, 14 November 2025. He noted that some applicants were paying excessive fees to third-party agents. He warned the public, stating:

“It has come to our attention that some applicants are paying significantly higher fees to third-party agents for Chinese visa services. I advise all applicants to confirm the official visa fees directly with our office to avoid paying unnecessary costs.”

The ambassador linked to the embassy’s earlier notice and encouraged applicants to verify all details before making any payments.
