Coach Nasreddine Nabi Explains Why He Left Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has officially confirmed his departure from the Soweto giants, just one month into his second season.

The announcement follows growing speculation around his future, despite the team showing significant improvement and sitting third on the log with four wins in their first six matches.

“It Was a Mutual Agreement”: Nasreddine Nabi Reveals

Breaking his silence, Nabi clarified that his departure had nothing to do with licensing issues for the CAF Confederation Cup.

My separation from Kaizer Chiefs was a mutual agreement with the club’s management, following a successful and challenging experience. Currently, I need some time to rest, focus more on my family, and monitor my wife’s health, which has required me to be by her side over the past period,” Nabi told North African outlet WinWin, as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

Record and Achievements at Amakhosi

Nabi exits Amakhosi after managing 39 games across all competitions, recording 16 wins, nine draws, and 14 defeats.

His biggest highlight was guiding the Glamour Boys to the Nedbank Cup, ending their decade-long trophy drought and securing a spot in this season’s Confederation Cup.

Although Chiefs finished ninth in the Premier Soccer League during his first season, many viewed his second campaign as a turnaround, with early signs of improvement despite Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to Sekhukhune United — his first defeat of the new season.

Linked with New Clubs but Wants a Break

While Nabi confirmed he has already attracted interest from clubs across Africa and the Arab world, he insisted his immediate focus remains on family.

“Indeed, several major African and Arab clubs have contacted me, but I will not enter into any negotiations at this time, as my priority is to take a temporary break and get some rest,” he explained.

He also acknowledged reports linking him with Etoile Sportive du Sahel but ruled out a move to Tunisia for now.

“It’s true. There have been contacts from parties within the Etoile Sportive du Sahel management, and I appreciate this great club and its large fan base, but I don’t want to undertake a coaching experience in Tunisia at the moment. Etoile Sportive du Sahel is a well-established club, and I respect it greatly, but the timing isn’t right for me.”
