US$4,000 & R20,000 stolen as wife spends 45 minutes in toilet
A couple from Zimunya Township was left devastated after losing US$4,000 (R74,000) and R20,000 (US$1,080) to burglars while the wife was in the toilet for 45 minutes.
Break-in during prayer night
According to Diamond FM Zim, the incident unfolded when the husband, Joseph Nyakutumbwa, was away attending an all-night prayer. His wife, Precious Dambwe, remained at home but was held up in the toilet due to stomach issues.
While she was away from the bedroom, thieves entered the house undetected and went straight for a cashbox hidden under the couple’s bed. The box contained money meant for Nyakutumbwa’s transportation business.
Diamond FM Zim reported:
“The incident occurred whilst the wife Precious Dambwe was home alone, occupied in the toilet due to a running stomach, whilst her husband Joseph Nyakutumbwa was attending an all-night prayer, allowing the burglars to sneak into their home undetected.”
Cashbox dumped in sink
When Dambwe finally came out of the toilet about 45 minutes later, she walked into the bedroom and found clothes scattered on the floor. The cashbox was gone.
Speaking to investigators, she explained her shock when she noticed the bedroom in disarray.
Diamond FM Zim quoted her as saying:
“Upon returning to the bedroom, she stumbled upon scattered clothes and a missing cashbox.”
The burglars did not take the box far. It was later discovered dumped in the kitchen sink, empty.
“The cashbox was abandoned in the kitchen sink but the contents were missing,” said Diamond FM Zim.
Police launch investigation
The couple immediately filed a police report. Officers from ZRP Zimunya attended the scene and carried out initial investigations.
Diamond FM Zim confirmed:
“A report was made to ZRP Zimunya who attended the scene and made some investigations.”
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the suspects remain unknown.
Police investigations are ongoing.
