The Al-Nassr forward has scored 146 goals in 234 appearances for Portugal. Both achievements stand as all-time international records in men’s football.
Moreover, he helped Portugal secure three major international trophies. These included Euro 2016 and two UEFA Nations League titles.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Incredible Portugal Legacy
Ronaldo transformed Portugal’s national team during his remarkable international career.
His greatest achievement came at Euro 2016 in France. He captained Portugal to their first-ever European Championship title.
Although an injury forced him off during the final, his leadership remained crucial. Portugal eventually defeated France 1-0 after extra time.
Furthermore, Ronaldo helped Portugal win the inaugural Nations League in 2019. They secured another Nations League crown in 2025.
His individual achievements were equally extraordinary. He became the highest-scoring men’s international footballer in history.
He also holds the record for the most international appearances. Consequently, his departure marks the end of an unforgettable chapter.
Ronaldo Ready to Hand Over Portugal’s Number 7 Shirt
In his retirement announcement, Ronaldo reflected on his journey representing Portugal.
He indicated that it was time to hand over the famous number 7 shirt. The decision brings an emotional chapter to a close.
However, his international legacy will remain difficult to match. Few footballers have influenced their countries as profoundly.
For millions of supporters, Ronaldo represented more than goals and trophies. He became a symbol of determination, ambition and national pride.
