Robbers Steal Police Rifle And Patrol Car After Attacking Three ZRP Officers, Leaving Them Hospitalised
Three Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers were hospitalised after daring robbers ambushed them using metal crowbars before stealing a police rifle and patrol vehicle in a dramatic midnight attack in Harare on Friday, 10 April 2026.
The brazen incident occurred around 12:20 AM along Northolt Road near Divaris Makaharis School in Mabelreign, according to an internal police report dated 10 April 2026 and information seen by ZimLive.
Inspector Magidi, Constable Nyamushamba and Constable Chihanga were conducting a stationary patrol when three masked suspects suddenly emerged from the darkness.
According to the internal police communication, the attackers were armed with crowbars and a high-powered torch.
“Suddenly three male adults wearing black balaclavas appeared in front of the car armed with a claw bar and a high powered torch,” reads the police report dated 10 April 2026.
Rifle Jammed As Attackers Closed In
The situation escalated quickly after Inspector Magidi reportedly instructed Constable Chihanga to fire at the suspects.
However, the rifle reportedly malfunctioned at a critical moment.
“Inspector Magidi then instructed Constable Chihanga to shoot. Constable Chihanga tried to shoot through the open window and the rifle jammed,” the report states.
The attackers allegedly used the opportunity to surround the vehicle and smash the windscreen.
“Immediately the criminals advanced, surrounded the car and hit the windscreen of the vehicle with a claw bar.”
Constable Nyamushamba reportedly attempted to flee through the driver’s door but was struck during the struggle.
“Constable Nyamushamba managed to escape through the driver’s door but was hit on the shoulder with a claw bar.”
Inspector Magidi was also injured during the confrontation.
“Inspector Magidi tried to come out of the vehicle and engage them but was struck on the forehead with a brick and fell down.”
Officers Overpowered In Violent Struggle
Constable Chihanga reportedly fought back using the rifle butt.
“Constable Chihanga was being blocked from coming out of the vehicle, he then used the butt of the G3 rifle to hit one of the criminals and managed to come out holding the rifle.”
However, he was then struck repeatedly.
“The other criminal hit him with a claw bar on his head twice and he fell down.”
The suspects then grabbed the weapon and fled.
“The criminals grabbed the G3 rifle and drove away with the complainants vehicle.”
The stolen items include:
- G3 rifle serial number 5567 with seven rounds
- White Nissan Tiida registration ACS 1584
- Samsung A15 cellphone
- Tecno 10 cellphone
Officers Hospitalised As Police Launch Manhunt
The injured officers were taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital, where their condition was reported as stable.
“The 3 police officers injured were taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital and their condition is stable.”
The scene reportedly showed broken glass and limited lighting from nearby school premises.
Multiple police units attended the scene, including CID Homicide, CID Marlborough, PSTT team and the Mabelreign canine unit.
Authorities have since launched a manhunt.
