The Premier Soccer League has taken a firm stance against misconduct. Herentals FC has received heavy sanctions after violent scenes during a match against Caps United at Rufaro Stadium on 13 September 2025. The club pleaded guilty after two security officials were involved in separate assault cases.
One assaulted a fan in the VVIP area. Another attacked a police officer after the final whistle. Consequently, the Disciplinary Committee expressed alarm at Herentals’ repeat offences. Previous penalties clearly failed to curb violent behaviour. Therefore, the Committee issued tougher punishment. Herentals must pay a US$5 000 fine. Additionally, the team will play three home matches behind closed doors.
Only accredited staff may attend. Meanwhile, security officials Paradzai Afa and Tairos Ngoma received three-season bans. These sanctions start on Matchday 32 against Yadah FC. The PSL reaffirmed its duty to protect safety. Clubs must train officials and follow regulations without fail.

Stern Warning Signals New Era for Discipline in Zimbabwe Football
This ruling sends a powerful message throughout Zimbabwean football. Disorder will no longer go unchecked in the PSL. Moreover, repeat offenders will face escalating punishment. Fans expect safe, enjoyable matchday environments. So do players and officials. Therefore, the league is prioritising discipline and professionalism.
Supporters reacted widely online after the announcement. Some welcomed the strong action. Others called for further accountability across all clubs. Meanwhile, academy mentor Nyoni shared his thoughts on Facebook. He wrote, “The future generation of soccer players needs my voice. And I am always there to teach
.” His message underlined a key point.
Football must nurture respect, sportsmanship, and responsibility. Ultimately, this moment could shift behaviour within the league. Teams will now realise the consequences of misconduct. As the season enters its final stretch, eyes remain fixed on Herentals. Zimbabwean football demands maturity and discipline moving forward.
