Qualifications and Experience Needed to Become the Next Warriors Head Coach Revealed
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has begun the hunt for the next Warriors head coach following the sudden dismissal of Michael Nees last week.
His contract was terminated with immediate effect, leaving one of the biggest jobs in Zimbabwean football up for grabs.

Competitive Excellence the Target
According to the official advertisement shared on Facebook, the Head Coach will be responsible for leading the Zimbabwe National Men’s Team to success in COSAFA, AFCON and FIFA competitions.
The new coach is expected to set tactical direction, select squads, and drive a high-performance culture aligned with ZIFA’s strategic football development plans.
High-Level Qualifications Required
ZIFA has emphasized its desire to attract a top-tier tactician, making a CAF Pro Licence or UEFA Pro Licence the minimum qualification. A degree in Sport Science, Coaching or Football Management would be an added advantage.
In addition, applicants must possess:
- At least 5 years’ coaching experience at national or top-flight club level
- A proven record of success in African competitions
- Strong leadership and media-handling skills
- Experience managing elite players
Key Responsibilities Outlined
The successful candidate will be tasked with building a modern, data-driven football identity for the Warriors. Their duties include:
- Scouting and selecting players based on performance and potential
- Developing tactical and training programmes
- Working closely with ZIFA’s Technical Department and youth pathways
- Maintaining discipline and professionalism within the squad
- Submitting regular progress and performance reports
The role is based in Harare and will be offered on a full-time fixed-term contract, with remuneration based on performance and qualifications.
