Kaizer Chiefs Star Thabiso Monyane Laughs Off Missed Scissors Kick Ahead of Stellenbosch Clash
Thabiso Monyane has brushed off online ridicule following his infamous missed scissors-kick attempt, insisting he remains confident in his ability to pull off spectacular goals.
The defender, who has been deployed as a wing-back, was in high spirits on Monday afternoon at Naturena as Chiefs addressed the media ahead of their clash against Stellenbosch FC.
Monyane became the subject of widespread social media memes after completely missing an acrobatic effort during a previous encounter with Stellenbosch. But rather than shy away from the moment, the former Orlando Pirates player has embraced the humour.
“It’s football, it happens. If it went in, it would have been a lovely goal and everyone would have been celebrating it,” Monyane said.

Monyane insisted that attempting audacious efforts is part of the game and that failure should not discourage ambition.
“A wise person once said to me, if you’re going to try and fail, you must fail big. I’m more than capable of that – don’t be shocked if it goes in next time,” he added.
His comments come as Amakhosi prepare for another showdown against Stellies, this time at the iconic FNB Stadium.
The encounter is a repeat of their recent Nedbank Cup last-32 meeting and is scheduled for a 19h30 kick-off at the Calabash.
Focus on the Rematch
With Kaizer Chiefs looking to build momentum, Monyane’s confidence could prove crucial as they seek a strong performance at home.
While the missed effort may have sparked laughter online, the defender has made it clear he is not afraid to try again — and next time, he believes, the outcome could be very different.
