ZACC Distances Itself From Deadly Masvingo Road Accident Which Killed Mother And Her 5 Children
The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has distanced itself from the deadly Masvingo road accident, which killed a mother and her five children, following circulating social media claims that ZACC officers were involved in events leading to the tragedy.
The fatal accident occurred on 2 April 2026 along the Harare–Masvingo Highway near the 246-kilometre peg, close to Masvingo, where six members of the same family lost their lives after a Toyota Corolla collided head-on with a Mercedes-Benz haulage truck.
In a statement issued on 4 April 2026, ZACC dismissed claims linking its officers to the incident and urged members of the public to verify information before sharing it.
“The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has learnt with deep sorrow the passing on of six (6) people in a fatal accident that occurred along Masvingo-Beitbridge highway on 2 April 2026. The Commission condoles with the bereaved families and wishes the injured speedy recovery.”
ZACC said it had noted circulating audio and video recordings that allegedly blamed its officers for the accident.
“The Commission is also concerned with a circulating video and audio that wrongly implicates ZACC officers in the tragedy and informs the public once again that there are no ZACC officers deployed at any road-block throughout the country.”
The Commission further clarified that allegations claiming officers instructed a truck to turn into a BP service station were false.
“The circulating video and audio allege that the accident was caused by ZACC officers who ordered a truck to turn into a BP garage along the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway, resulting in the fatal crash.”
Commissioner Kindness Paradza urged the public to verify information through official communication channels.
“The public is advised to verify information through the ZACC Communications and Media Liaison Unit.”

Authorities confirmed that all occupants of the Toyota Corolla died at the scene.
“All six people who were in the Toyota Corolla vehicle (mother and her five children) died on the spot and their bodies were taken to Masvingo Provincial Teaching Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem.”
Social Media Claims Dismissed
Police also dismissed circulating social media claims linking the accident to law enforcement operations.
Commissioner Nyathi urged members of the public to disregard unverified claims and allow investigations to proceed.
Authorities confirmed that investigations into the accident are ongoing, with preliminary indications suggesting that the driver of the Toyota Corolla lost control before encroaching into the opposite lane.
The tragic accident occurred at the start of the Easter travel period, a time traditionally associated with increased traffic volumes on Zimbabwe’s major highways.
Officials have since extended condolences to the bereaved family.
“Police convey sincere condolences to the bereaved family following this devastating loss.”
Authorities also urged motorists to exercise caution during the busy holiday period.
The accident sent shockwaves across Zimbabwe, particularly after it emerged that the victims were a mother travelling with her five children.
