ED Plays The Long Game: Mliswa Says Mnangagwa Split Lands Ministry Over Corruption

Mliswa Makes Explosive Land Corruption Claims After Reshuffle

Outspoken politician Temba Mliswa says President Emmerson Mnangagwa “plays the long game”, claiming the decision to split the Ministry of Lands from Agriculture followed alleged corruption and irregular land allocations under the previous arrangement.

Mliswa made the explosive remarks on 11 April 2026 and 12 April 2026, where he accused former Lands and Agriculture Minister Anxious Masuka of presiding over questionable land allocations and ignoring established procedures.

The remarks came shortly after the government separated the Lands portfolio from Agriculture during a cabinet reshuffle.

“The reshuffle in the Ministry of Lands is a timely intervention that should be commended. The Ministry had become a hub of corruption… I have always warned people that ED plays the long game and that even if you haven’t as yet gotten your comeuppance it doesn’t mean you have escaped. It will catch up with you,” Mliswa said on 11 April 2026.

He further alleged widespread irregularities in land allocations.

“Land was being cut up and parcelled out to people who paid all over the country even with other signatures missing.”

US$2.3 Million Allegations Surface

Mliswa also made serious financial allegations, claiming millions exchanged hands.

“Money amounting to over US$2.3 million (approx. R43.7 million) exchanged hands and we have the details on it and we release it all in due time,” he said.

He further alleged irregular allocations in Mashonaland West.

“This was prolific in Mash West with State Minister Marian Chombo. Allocations were being done there even without the signatures of Chairman of the Province.”

He also accused authorities of approving competing rehabilitation programmes.

“How can one country have two prototypes on rehabilitation? Our company was doing rehabilitation and yet the company which was preferred ahead of us was doing mining under the guise of rehabilitation.”

Calls For Audit And Investigations

On 12 April 2026, Mliswa escalated his claims, calling for investigations and a land audit.

“Numerous party members who had been allocated land found themselves dispossessed… This underscores the urgent necessity for a comprehensive Land Audit, particularly in Mash West.”

He also called for investigations by authorities.

“It is vital for the Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission to pursue these allegations diligently.”

Social Media Reactions Emerge

Mliswa’s remarks triggered mixed reactions on X, with some users questioning why alleged corruption details had not yet been handed to authorities.

One user, Chirandu Ganyamatope, wrote:

“Money amounting to over US$2.3 million exchanged hands and we have the details on it and we release it all in due time. So you have knowledge about a crime? Fraud to be specific, but you will choose a time when the law should be brought into this?”

Another user, Kara Mukombe, raised concerns about political involvement in land allocations.

“A ZANU PF Chairman approving land deals? Do you read what you write? Do you not realise that involving party people in government business sounds even more corrupt than what you insinuate?”

Another user questioned the role of political party structures.

“How does a private entity like a political party in the mould of ZANU PF create a technical committee that signs off land allocation deals? Land belongs to the state and the minister is empowered by the state.”

Others criticised Mliswa directly.

“You are not ashamed to advocate for conflation of the party and the state? You condemn a minister for failing to get signatures from a party chair? So the land belongs to your party?”

Meanwhile, Mliswa praised the appointment of the new Lands Minister.

“Congratulations also to Minister Haritatos who has remained loyal and works very hard… Thank God that there won’t be anymore corrupt land deals.”

The government had not publicly responded to the allegations as of 13 April 2026.
