Edmilson Dove Backs Benni McCarthy for Kaizer Chiefs Coaching Role
Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove has publicly backed Benni McCarthy as a strong candidate for the club’s top coaching position.
Dove’s endorsement adds to growing sentiment that the former striker could be ready for a high-profile return to the Premier Soccer League.

Strong Credentials Strengthen Case
McCarthy’s reputation continues to grow following a successful coaching spell at AmaZulu FC, where he guided the team to impressive performances.
His experience was further enhanced during his time on the coaching staff at Manchester United, giving him exposure at the highest level of European football.
Combined with his decorated playing career, many believe he has the pedigree to handle a club of Chiefs’ stature.
“He Has What It Takes”
Dove, who previously worked under McCarthy at Cape Town City FC, spoke highly of the coach’s abilities during an interview on a football podcast.
He described McCarthy as one of the best coaches he has worked with and expressed confidence in his ability to manage a big club environment.
While acknowledging that the final decision lies with the club, Dove made it clear he believes McCarthy is ready for the challenge and capable of leading Chiefs forward.
“I think he has the ability to handle a club such as Kaizer Chiefs. I have worked under that man, and I can tell you he is one of my favourite coaches I have had over the years.
He is right there, you understand. I won’t go into details, but he has the same qualifications as all those other coaches who have been at the club.
But I’m one hundred per cent sure that he has what it takes to lead Chiefs,” he said.
Honesty Seen as Key Strength
Beyond tactics and experience, Dove highlighted McCarthy’s personality as a major asset.
He said the coach’s honesty and direct approach set him apart, noting that players benefit from clear communication and straightforward leadership.
According to Dove, that kind of character is essential in modern football, and he believes McCarthy would bring the right balance of discipline and openness if given the opportunity.
“He is a great coach, and he is a very honest person, and I think we need someone in life or football who is going to be honest with you and tell you things as they are.
“I think Benni is that type of coach. If given a chance, I think he can do the job
