Eyewitnesses Detail Dramatic Capture as Community Foils Kidnapping in Epworth
According to eyewitnesses, the suspects, consisting of three men and two women, parked their vehicle near a local marketplace. The distressing cries of the children trapped in the car boot alerted nearby individuals, prompting them to investigate further.
“Vakaonekwa vane vana two muboot, after they parked their car close to where people sell their goods. The kids vaichema, which made people suspicious and they went to check and found the children in the boot,” one witness recounted.
As the situation unfolded, the suspects attempted to flee, but the community swiftly mobilized to apprehend them. Despite the suspects’ efforts to evade capture, the residents managed to detain them.
Recognition by Vigilant Woman Links Suspect to Previous Kidnapping Incident
During the confrontation, a vigilant woman recognized one of the female suspects from a prior kidnapping incident involving children. This recognition, coupled with the swift action of the community, led to the apprehension of all five suspects.
Law Enforcement Responds Swiftly as Five Suspected Kidnappers Apprehended in Epworth
Following the citizens’ intervention, law enforcement officers swiftly responded to the scene. The suspects were promptly taken into custody and transported to Domboramwari Police Station for further investigation.
