Fake Nurse Arrested For Forging Certificates At Mpilo Hospital

A fake nurse was arrested for forging certificates to get admission into school at Mpilo Hospital. The young woman stands accused of infiltrating the institution’s nursing school and working for nearly two years, all on the strength of a forged educational certificate.

Sandra Kudzaishe Ndege, a 25-year-old from Murehwa, now faces charges of fraud and forgery in a case that has raised serious questions about institutional vetting processes.

Ndege presented herself before Bulawayo magistrate Abednico Ndebele, where she entered a plea of not guilty. The court ordered her to remain in custody until her next appearance scheduled for 29 September. The allegations paint a picture of determined duplicity, suggesting that after failing to attain the necessary O-Level grades twice, she resorted to criminal means to achieve her ambition.

The court was presented with a tale of two very different academic transcripts. According to the official record from the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec), Ndege’s genuine academic career was marked by struggle. In 2018, sitting for seven subjects, she managed to pass in only three, while critically failing both Mathematics and Science. A subsequent resit the following year yielded just a single pass.

This reality, however, was concealed by a meticulously crafted counterfeit certificate. The forged document presented to Mpilo painted Ndege as a high-achieving scholar. It boasted eight passes, including impressive grades in the very subjects she had previously failed, such as a ‘B’ in English and a ‘C’ in Mathematics. It was this entirely fictitious success that secured her a coveted place. A court official stated,

“In September 2023, she applied for a place to train as a Registered General Nurse using the fake certificate as proof of educational qualifications. Mpilo Hospital School of Nursing acted upon the misrepresentation and enrolled her.”

A Web of Deception Unravels After Verification Process

The elaborate scheme began to unravel this past July, when the hospital’s administration undertook a routine verification process. Mpilo sent Ndege’s submitted results to Zimsec for authentication, a move that proved to be her undoing.

Officials there promptly identified the certificate as a fake, triggering an immediate investigation and leading to her arrest. It was revealed that throughout her nearly two years of training, Ndege had been receiving a monthly salary, estimated to be in the region of US$300, under these false pretences.
