Female Private Tutor Jailed 15 Years For Cross-Border Indecent Assault Of Female Student

A 26-year-old female private tutor has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the aggravated indecent assault of her 10-year-old female student. The verdict was delivered by the Harare Regional Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 17 November 2025. The court found the woman guilty on three counts for crimes committed between August and October of the same year.

A Breach Of Trust In Two Nations

The shocking assaults took place in two locations. According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the incidents occurred in the affluent suburb of Borrowdale in Harare, and also in Gaborone, Botswana. The NPA’s news bulletin detailed the nature of the abuse, stating the offender used her position to command the child.

“The offender would call the victim ordering her to remove her clothes and inserting her fingers into the victim’s privates.”

The tutor maintained control over the young girl through intimidation. The National Prosecuting Authority reported that the woman explicitly threatened her victim to ensure her silence.

“The offender threatened the victim with violence if she disclosed the matter to anyone.”

This threat of violence prevented the child from speaking out about the repeated assaults.

The Mother’s Discovery That Ended The Ordeal

The abuse remained a hidden secret for months. It was only through a parent’s observation that the horrific truth was uncovered. The case came to light not through a confession, but because of a physical symptom noticed by the child’s mother.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority, “The matter came to light when the victim’s mother noticed her difficulty walking.” This observation prompted further investigation, leading to the tutor’s arrest and the subsequent court case.

A Statement On Zero-Tolerance Justice

In announcing the significant 15-year prison sentence, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe released a strong statement. They emphasised the particular severity of crimes committed by those in positions of trust. The NPA bulletin contained a quote outlining their stance.

“The courts maintain a zero-tolerance policy against those who violate the sanctity and safety of children, especially in a position of trust like a tutor. We are committed to ensuring that perpetrators face the full force of justice to deter such heinous crimes.”

The statement confirms the judiciary’s hardline approach to such offences, aiming to deliver justice for the victims and deter potential offenders.
