Female ZRP Officer Shot Dead By Husband After Confronting Him Over Alleged Stepdaughter Abuse

Harare Horror As ZRP Sergeant Is Shot Dead After Confronting Husband Over Teenage Daughter

A female Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer was shot dead by her husband in Harare on Sunday night, 16 August 2026, after she confronted him over allegations involving her 16-year-old daughter.

Sergeant Portia Dzanwa, 36, who was stationed at ZRP Hatfield Traffic, died at the scene. Her husband, Pharaoh Dombodzvuku, 52, was arrested on suspicion of murder after allegedly turning the firearm on himself.

Police Sergeant Killed During Confrontation

Zimlive reports that the Police said the teenager told her mother earlier on Sunday that she had been involved in a sexual relationship with her stepfather.

The allegations reportedly prompted Dzanwa to confront her husband. The family then agreed to go to Southlea Park Police Station to report the matter.

Instead, police said Dombodzvuku drove to his brother’s home in Hopley, saying he wanted to discuss the issue first.

The brother reportedly took the teenager inside while the couple remained in the vehicle.

“A short time later, the brother heard two gunshots,” police said.

He then rushed outside and found the couple in the front seats.

Husband Remains Under Guard At Hospital

Police said a CZ pistol with a magazine containing 12 rounds was found on Dombodzvuku’s lap.

Dzanwa was pronounced dead at the scene. Dombodzvuku survived and was taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital in critical condition, where he remains under armed guard.

The shooting brings the matter into sharp focus, with police now investigating both the killing of Sergeant Dzanwa and the circumstances surrounding the allegations that preceded it.
