Former Kaizer Chiefs star reveals Orlando Pirates’ biggest problem

Former Kaizer Chiefs star Junior Khanye believes he knows Orlando Pirates’ downfall against Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Buccaneers hosted Sundowns at FNB Stadium in a top-of-the-table clash. Pirates entered the match with a six-point lead. However, the Tshwane giants brought them back to earth. Khanye has now shared his views on the result.

Loss of Mbokazi exposed defensive weaknesses

Khanye insists the defeat was not about tactics from Abdeslam Ouaddou. Instead, he believes Pirates still feel Mbekezeli Mbokazi’s departure.

Mbokazi left last year after securing a move to MLS side Chicago Fire. Since then, Pirates have struggled defensively.

Khanye argues the partnership of Lebone Seema and Nkosinathi Sibisi has weaknesses. Sundowns exposed those weaknesses during the match.

Khanye questions centre-back partnership

“Seema’s main job is to defend and not to play. He was tested in today’s game. For Orlando Pirates I think losing Mbokazi costed them and I understand why he had to leave. It’s for his career,” – the former Kaizer Chiefs ace told Idiski TV as quoted by AfrikFoot.

“We are happy for him and if the boy is doing well, South Africa is benefitting. But I don’t think there was a link between Sibisi and Seema at centre-back.”

Next, Orlando Pirates face Casric Stars in the Nedbank Cup. Afterwards, they meet rivals Kaizer Chiefs in a crucial league match. Ouaddou will hope to fix his defence before the sold-out clash at FNB Stadium.
