Former Kaizer Chiefs Striker Ranga Chivaviro Turns Down Lucrative Iraq Move
Zimbabwean striker and former Kaizer Chiefs forward Ranga Chivaviro has rejected a big-money offer from Iraqi Stars League outfit Al-Mosul SC.
The 32-year-old has been in high demand since parting ways with Amakhosi, attracting interest from several clubs, including Tanzania’s Young Africans and Azam, the rebranded Siwelele (formerly SuperSport United), TS Galaxy, Chippa United, and both Mosul and Zakho SC from Iraq.
Ranga Chivaviro Rejects Lucrative Iraq Move
Sources told iDiski Times that the proposed move to Mosul is now completely off the table. Chivaviro is understood to be holding out for a club that offers not just financial reward, but also the right sporting environment to help him recapture the form that earned him his move to Chiefs in the first place.
The towering striker has some experience playing abroad, having spent a brief spell in Kosovo with KF Trepça ’89. That adventure ended prematurely due to the Covid-19 pandemic, prompting his return to South Africa with Venda FC. His performances there paved the way for a standout season at Marumo Gallants, which in turn led to his 2023 switch to the Soweto giants.
During his time at Chiefs, Chivaviro managed nine goals and one assist in 45 appearances across two seasons. His contract expired in June, making him a free agent.

Waiting for the Right Project
Fresh interest has since come in from the new Siwelele brand, Zakho SC in Iraq, and the Tanzanian side Azam. The latter had been keen on his signature even before his move to Chiefs, and is now under fresh leadership with Florent Ibenge recently appointed head coach. Young Africans also remain admirers.
For Siwelele, the need is urgent—they’ve lost Bradley Grobler to Sekhukhune United and seen Terrence Dzvukamanja return to Zimbabwe to join Scottland FC.
For now, Chivaviro is in no rush. He appears willing to wait for the “right project” rather than jump at the first lucrative offer, hoping to return to the sharp, goal-hungry form that once made him one of the PSL’s most sought-after strikers.
