Former Orlando Pirates star tells Mofokeng the road to Europe

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Tyren Arendse has advised Relebohile Mofokeng to improve his game. He believes the young attacker must stay focused on development.

Mofokeng, aged 21, has scored nine goals in 2026. He is now a strong contender for PSL Player of the Year. Recently, he scored five goals in two matches. This includes a hat-trick against TS Galaxy.

Arendse believes overseas opportunities will come naturally.

“At present, Mofokeng should focus on enjoying his football. When the timing is right, opportunities will arise,” he told KickOff.

Consistency Remains the Key Challenge

Arendse stressed the importance of maintaining performance over multiple seasons. He warned against rushing into big moves too early.

Mofokeng has scored nine goals for Pirates in 2026.

“Some players perform well for an entire season and then are advised they are prepared to move, which is not always the case. He should aim to maintain this level of performance each season.

“The challenge for him is to sustain this form and to complete at least three seasons in the PSL,” Arendse added.

National Team Experience Builds Growth

Arendse also highlighted the value of international exposure. He explained that playing for the national team improves development.

“Consistent performance at the national team level enhances a player’s development, as it involves competing against international players, which improves skill and experience.

“The national team coach previously expressed his opinion when Mbekezeli Mbokazi transferred to America, suggesting he was better suited for one of the major leagues. This will likely pose a significant challenge for Mofokeng and his management team as well,” Arendse concluded.

Mofokeng has scored 10 goals and provided six assists this season.
