Former Scottland FC Target Douglas Mapfumo Set to Join European Club

Former Polokwane City and Cape Town City striker Douglas Mapfumo could soon be heading to Europe, with reports linking him to a club in Poland.

Douglas Mapfumo Set to Join European Club

The 25-year-old has been without a team since leaving Polokwane City at the end of the 2024/25 season. Initially, he was tipped to join Scottland FC in Zimbabwe, where stars like Khama Billiat, Knowledge Musona and Walter Musona are playing. But after talks failed to reach an agreement, Mapfumo turned down the offer.

According to FARPost, the Zimbabwe international is now in advanced discussions with an unnamed Polish side. If the deal goes through, it would be a huge opportunity for the forward to prove himself in Europe and strengthen his chances of making Zimbabwe’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Douglas Mapfumo’s Football Career So Far

A product of the Legends Academy in Zimbabwe, Mapfumo has often been described as one of the country’s most underrated forwards. Known for his strength, pace, and aerial dominance, he has the physical presence to trouble defenders.

However, game time has been an issue. Last season, he was limited to just three appearances for Polokwane City in the Betway Premiership. Despite that, his earlier performances at the club had already earned him recognition back home, with call-ups to the Warriors during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

For the national team, Mapfumo has made four starts and three substitute appearances so far.

After joining Polokwane City from Black Leopards in July 2023, Mapfumo featured in 35 matches across all competitions, scoring five goals and providing two assists. Before that, he also had spells at Cape Umoya and Cape Town City in South Africa.
