Punter Wins US$37,000 After Historic Day of PSL Draws
A football bettor walked away with US$37,000 on Sunday after staking just US$2 on an unlikely outcome that saw eight Castle Lager Premier Soccer League matches all end in draws.
The extraordinary sequence of results has been described as a first in the history of Zimbabwe’s top-flight league.

Historic Day in the Premiership
For the first time on record, eight league matches in a single round concluded in stalemates. The only match that did not end level was Kwekwe United’s fixture, where the struggling side suffered a 0-4 defeat to Triangle at Gibbo Stadium.
The rare streak of draws triggered massive payouts across local betting houses, with punters who had backed the results winning big.
US$2 Turns Into US$37,000
According to H-Metro, one gambler, who placed just US$2 on the draw outcomes, won a remarkable US$37,000. Betting experts noted that if the same selections had been backed with a US$10 stake, the payout would have soared to approximately US$370,000.
Another lucky punter invested US$1 and walked away with US$12,056. Their winning ticket included a 10 percent bonus amounting to US$1,095.91. The odds for the bet stood at 10,960 to one.
Betting Houses Face Heavy Payouts
Sources within the betting industry estimate that betting companies could pay out more than US$300,000 from the weekend’s fixtures alone, due to the unusual results.
A betting company official who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed the scale of the payouts.
“This is something which doesn’t happen often. We sat down and tried to analyse what could have happened and we realised that the draws in our PSL and some draws in the Tunisian leagues were responsible for these cash outs,” the official said.
“Sometimes You Win, Sometimes You Lose”
The official added that such outcomes are simply part of the unpredictable nature of sports betting.
“That’s the way the industry is. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. There are days when things which usually don’t happen, like eight draws in our PSL, happen and some people win big.”
