Guruve Police Arrest Five Family Members In Murder Of Missing Relative

In a shocking development in Guruve, five family members have been arrested for the murder of their own relative. The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the arrests in connection with the death of 54-year-old John Chimana Chaora, whose body was discovered on New Year’s Eve.

The victim was last seen alive on Christmas Day at Bowen Shops in Kazunga Village, Guruve. He was reported missing three days later on 28 December 2025. After intensive investigations, police arrested five suspects: Kelvin Katuruza Chaora (26), a 16-year-old male juvenile, Chemika Gwenzi (33), Bvumbe Mandeya (35), and Ranwes Chaora (58). The police also recovered the victim’s belongings. The grim discovery of Chaora’s body was made near Ambush Dam in Kazunga Village on 31 December 2025.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police announced the news on X, stating:

“The ZRP confirms the arrest of five family members in connection with the murder of their relative, John Chimana Chaora (54) in Guruve.”

A Separate Wave Of Terror Grips The District

This family tragedy unfolds against a backdrop of profound fear in Guruve, where communities are reeling from a separate, ongoing serial killer case. Since October 2024, a manhunt has been underway for 32-year-old Anymore Zvitsva, who is suspected of murdering twelve people. The situation escalated dramatically in late December 2024, with a series of brutal attacks that included the deaths of a five-year-old, a two-year-old, and a six-month-old infant.

The terror has paralysed daily life. Edith Guhwa of Mukuya village, who lost five relatives, spoke to The Herald about the climate of fear:

“We are now confined to our homes, we cannot attend our fields anymore because it is now too dangerous to be out there with a serial killer on the loose.”

Family Of Serial Killer Suspect Also In Custody

In a dramatic twist to the serial killer investigation, police have arrested members of Anymore Zvitsva’s own family, alleging they aided the fugitive. Those taken into custody include the suspect’s 107-year-old grandmother and several siblings, accused of supplying him with food and information.

The suspect’s niece, Reason, who is now caring for her grandmother’s empty compound, confirmed the arrest to The Herald. Her mother was one of Zvitsva’s first victims.

“I am all alone here, Gogo is now 107 years old, she had to be taken in by police to stop any one from supplying my killer uncle with information related to his hunt,” Reason said.

Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi issued a stern warning to anyone considering helping the suspect.

“The substantial monetary reward is still standing and we are also looking for people or relatives who are assisting the suspect. They are liable for arrest,” Commissioner Nyathi stated.

The community remains on edge, with residents like Edward Gweshe pleading for urgency.

“Our lives will not return to normalcy until the killer has been nabbed,” Gweshe said. “I grew up with the said killer, he has always been a problem child… he loves machetes and [is] very dangerous so the matter deserves urgency.”

The search for Zvitsva continues, involving drones and tactical teams, as Guruve grapples with these two devastating criminal cases.
