A Harare man has been arrested and charged with fraud after hacking into a businessman’s bank accounts and stealing thousands of dollars in a suspected cybercrime incident.

Aaron Gidi was taken into custody following allegations that he accessed and siphoned funds from multiple bank accounts belonging to a Ruwa-based businessman.

Police say the alleged offence involved unauthorised access to bank systems and the transfer of large sums of money into accounts linked to business entities.

Court Appearance and Bail Decision

Gidi later appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo, where he was not required to plead to the charges.

He was granted bail set at US$200 and ordered to continue residing at his given address. The court also barred him from interfering with State witnesses as investigations continue.

Businessman Targeted in Alleged Cyber Fraud

The complainant, Lawrence Chishamiso Charasika (55) of Damafalls Phase 4 in Ruwa, is said to have lost a significant amount of money in the incident.

Alleged Scheme and Digital Break-In

Prosecutors allege that on April 3, 2026, Gidi acted alongside two accomplices identified as Paradza and Peter Idi Kubare, who are still at large.

The group is accused of hacking into Charasika’s two CBZ Bank accounts before transferring funds without authorisation.

US$13,600 and ZiG110,000 Stolen

After gaining access, the suspects allegedly moved US$13,600 and ZiG110,000 into bank accounts connected to Kubare’s companies, namely PetroKub Investments (Pvt) Ltd and Everyday Import Wholesalers (Pvt) Ltd.

Authorities say the money was later shared among the suspects, and none of the stolen funds has been recovered so far.

Investigation Ongoing

The case remains under investigation, with police still searching for the two alleged accomplices.

Prosecutor Lawrence Gangarahwe is handling the matter as proceedings continue.
