Harare Mbare Musika Terminus Set For A Planned Upgrade

Harare’s notoriously chaotic but vital Mbare Musika bus terminus is finally set for an upgrade, with construction work scheduled to commence within the next month. The ambitious project, bankrolled entirely by the City of Harare’s internal revenue-generating arm, City Parking, aims to transform the capital’s busiest transport hub into a sleek, modern facility fit for the 21st century.

The comprehensive overhaul will leave no stone unturned, targeting everything from dilapidated passenger shelters and public toilets to paving, security, and boundary walls. The plans also include innovative, eco-friendly additions such as a full solar power installation and electronic boom gates to regulate vehicle entry and exit.

Harare City Council spokesman, Mr Stanley Gama, confirmed that the council is utilising its own resources to drive this critical urban renewal project, a strategy successfully employed during the recent refurbishment of Rufaro Stadium.

He stated,

“As part of resource mobilisation, the council has decided to go it alone and use internal resources, where City Parking shall finance the development and modernisation of Mbare Musika Bus Terminus. City Parking shall finance and manage the project and provide all the necessary equipment and machinery for the construction.”

This approach, which has seen nearly US$1 million spent on the stadium upgrade, aims to circumvent the high costs associated with outsourcing such large-scale developments and ensure the project remains on budget and on schedule.
