A famous Harare personal fitness trainer is being accused of stealing US$5,000 cash from a client’s car. The fitness trainer is accused of turning on his own client. Police have confirmed the arrests and investigations, issuing a stern warning to the public.
This case emerged from the upmarket Pro Fitness Health Club in Borrowdale, where a trainer stands accused of stealing US$5,000 from a client he was supposed to be assisting. The victim, 39-year-old Allen Tatenda Badzarugere, was in the midst of his workout when the crime occurred.
It is alleged that the trainer, Tinashe Gandari, left his client exercising, went to the changing rooms to get the car keys, and then proceeded to the parking lot. An hour later, Mr Badzarugere discovered the substantial sum of cash missing from the glove compartment of his Mercedes-Benz, with no signs of a forced entry.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the arrest and the disturbing details.

“We are investigating a case where a fitness trainer allegedly used his position of trust to steal from a client,” Inspector Chakanza stated. “The suspect was apprehended on Wednesday, and the incident serves as a grave reminder that vigilance is required even in seemingly secure environments.”
Shattered Windows and Stolen Fortunes in Southerton
In a separate but equally devastating incident in Southerton, 35-year-old David James Gentleman fell victim to a brazen smash-and-grab. He had parked his Ford Ranger along Douglas Road to attend to a matter at a construction site. Mere moments after leaving his vehicle, he heard shouts alerting him to a break-in. Rushing back, he was met with the sight of his passenger window shattered and a satchel containing a massive US$34,700 stolen.
Inspector Chakanza lamented the significant loss, noting the audacity of the thieves.
“In the Southerton case, a member of the public witnessed the act, but the criminals were swift and managed to escape with a life-changing amount of money. We are following several leads,” he said.
A Costly Salon Visit in Tynwald
Adding to the week’s distressing tally, a 41-year-old woman from Tynwald, Believe Chinotsa, lost US$30,210 (approx. R574,000) during a trip to Divaris Shopping Centre. After spending forty minutes at a hair appointment, she returned to her Honda Fit to find the driver’s door ajar and the quarter glass smashed. Thieves had used an unknown object to break in and make off with a laptop bag, which contained not only the computer but also US$29,960 in cash.

Commenting on this third major theft, Inspector Chakanza emphasised the preventable nature of these crimes.
“We are currently investigating a theft from a vehicle case involving more than US$29,000. Unfortunately, nothing has been recovered,” he stated. He urged motorists to be vigilant, adding, “The common thread in these cases is the leaving of vast amounts of cash and valuables in unattended vehicles. We cannot stress enough the importance of taking your belongings with you.”
