He loves the jail: Presidential Amnesty Beneficiary Arrested For Third Time

A 39-year-old man regained freedom under a presidential amnesty four months ago. However, police have now arrested him again.

Emmanuel Chinembiri appeared before a Harare magistrate this week. He faces charges of stealing an iPhone 15 Pro Max worth $1,650.

Rapid Return to Crime

The court heard that he quickly returned to criminal activity after his December 2025 release. Previously, he had served time for unlawful entry.

Within one week of release, police arrested him for theft. After pleading guilty at Mbare Magistrate’s Court, he avoided prison. Instead, the court ordered community service.

However, while serving that sentence, he committed another theft. Consequently, he appeared in court again.

Latest Theft Incident

In the latest case, events unfolded on 4 April 2026. Police received a report of a “theft from a motor vehicle” owned by Maskman Dingwizi.

Dingwizi tracked his device and identified its last location at Chinembiri’s residence.

Soon after, officers visited Warren Park 1 shopping centre. Witnesses confirmed they saw Chinembiri trying to sell a matching handset.

At the police station, officers confronted him with evidence. This included tracking data and his prior record.

As a result, Chinembiri admitted to the crime. He then led officers to his home. There, he retrieved the stolen iPhone from beneath a sofa.

He has pleaded guilty and remains in custody awaiting sentencing.
