Highlanders FC appoint former Manchester City striker as coach

Highlanders have reportedly appointed former Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari as head coach. The club is also preparing to pay off South African coach Thabo Senong.

Sources say the decision followed high-level talks held in Harare on Tuesday. Club chairman Kenneth Mhlophe and deputy Fiso Siziba travelled to meet benefactor Wicknell Chivayo.

Key Meeting Seals Coaching Changes

The meeting reportedly confirmed Benjani’s immediate role at the club. As a result, Highlanders are moving towards ending Senong’s contract.

“Benjie is the new Highlanders dressing room sheriff. He has signed the contract and from the looks of it, the club may pay off Senong. Chivayo made it clear that Bosso may go ahead with the Senong deal, but he won’t release a single dime,” said the source.

Chivayo Promises Financial Support

Meanwhile, Chivayo reportedly pledged support for the club’s preparations. He promised to fund a pre-season training camp for the Bulawayo giants.

In addition, he committed an undisclosed amount for player recruitment. The funding aims to help Highlanders compete strongly for major honours.
