Highlanders FC Receives Second Cash Injection Of US$250K From Wicknell Chivay

One of Zimbabwe’s most storied football institutions, Highlanders FC, has publicly confirmed the receipt of a substantial second payment of US$250K from flamboyant businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo. The latest disbursement, a sum of US$250K, forms part of a landmark US$1 million pledge made by the controversial magnate to support the club’s 2025 campaign.

The Bulawayo giants released an official communiqué verifying that the funds have been securely deposited into a designated trust account, overseen by the club’s curator. This latest transaction means the total financial support received from Sir Wicknell now stands at an impressive US$500K, marking a pivotal moment for the team’s operational capabilities.

The club has been transparent about the allocation of these considerable funds, outlining clear priorities aimed at strengthening the squad and infrastructure. A significant portion has been directly allocated to enhancing player welfare, a move designed to boost morale and performance on the pitch.

Detailing the use of the finances, a statement from the club elaborated,

“The funds have been used mainly to cater for players’ welfare, including winning bonuses, travel expenses, and match allowances.”

Beyond immediate player needs, the investment is also being directed towards long-term projects. The statement further confirmed that,

“Additionally, part of the money is being channelled towards upgrading the training pitches and constructing a perimeter wall at the Highlanders clubhouse.”

This dual approach addresses both the immediate competitive edge and the foundational facilities of the club.
