Highlanders FC have suspended Chief Executive Officer Denzil Mkandla over alleged financial irregularities. The club leadership made the decision during a crisis meeting on Tuesday night. A source within the executive shared details but requested anonymity.
The source said Mkandla, appointed in August last year, faces accusations of financial misconduct. These allegations relate to the club’s pre-season camp in Botswana. Service providers reportedly issued an inflated bill during that period.
Internal Divisions and Leadership Tensions
Meanwhile, Mkandla is expected to submit a report responding to the allegations. However, the situation highlights growing divisions within the club’s executive. Some insiders suggest the CEO may be a scapegoat for deeper administrative problems.
At the same time, tensions continue within the Bosso camp. Head coach Benjani Mwaruwari recently criticised the club’s administration. He pointed to alleged insubordination and a lack of support.
Poor Performance Adds Pressure
Additionally, Highlanders endured a difficult 2025 season. The team finished just two points above the relegation zone. This outcome formed part of an ongoing rebuilding process.
However, the struggles have continued into the current campaign. So far, the club has not secured a single win.
Instead, they have drawn all six matches played.
