Highlanders are chasing a memorable centenary gift as they prepare for a crucial Chibuku Super Cup semi-final against CAPS United.
The two Zimbabwean football heavyweights meet at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday, November 1. Both sides will fight for a place in the final.
For Bosso, victory would bring them closer to ending their long wait for major silverware. However, CAPS United stand in their way after defeating Highlanders twice in the league this season.
Benjani Mwaruwari Reveals Highlanders’ Injury Concerns
Highlanders have battled through difficult knockout matches to reach the last four. They eliminated Chicken Inn and MWOS on penalties to keep their cup ambitions alive.
Moreover, the Bulawayo giants last lifted the Chibuku Super Cup in 2019. They defeated Ngezi Platinum Stars 1-0 at Barbourfields Stadium to claim that trophy.
Now, Highlanders want another triumph during their 100th anniversary celebrations. Their 2026 campaign has proved challenging, with salary-payment controversies adding to the pressure.
Nevertheless, head coach Benjani Mwaruwari insists his squad remains focused on Sunday’s assignment. He also acknowledged the problems CAPS United previously caused his team.
“We are facing a side which gave us all sorts of problems, but we are motivated to win the game. We have been working hard, and the boys are ready to do duty come Sunday.
“Yes, CAPS United may be having a packed programme, but we are not reading much into that. They have depth, and our only worry is the injuries. We have six players injured, but we are hopeful those selected will do duty,” Mwaruwari said.
The coach confirmed that six players remain injured ahead of the decisive encounter. However, he hopes his available players will deliver when selected.
Darlington Mukuli Eyes a Centenary Celebration
Highlanders captain Darlington Mukuli believes winning the competition would make the club’s anniversary celebrations even more special.
Bosso have struggled to challenge consistently in the league this season. Therefore, the Chibuku Super Cup offers them another opportunity to secure silverware.
“We are celebrating 100 years, so winning this cup will be a perfect finish for us, seeing that in the league we are at a distant position,” Mukuli said.
Meanwhile, the other semi-final takes place on Saturday, October 31. Hardrock will face FC Hunters at Chahwanda Stadium in Kwekwe.
Both teams will also target victory as they pursue a place in the final. Consequently, an exciting weekend awaits Zimbabwean football supporters as the competition approaches its decisive stage.
