Job Sikhala Arrested In South Africa Over Explosives Discovery

Pretoria Police Arrest Job Sikhala After Explosives Found In Car

Former Zimbabwean MP Job Sikhala has been arrested in South Africa after authorities allegedly discovered explosives inside his vehicle. The dramatic arrest, which took place in Pretoria, has sent shockwaves through political circles, with his associates claiming he is the victim of an elaborate set-up by Zimbabwean intelligence operatives.

A Meeting That Turned Into A Police Stop

According to details shared online, the events began when Sikhala, 53, agreed to meet individuals who reportedly said they were members of a Congolese political organisation. On 7 November 2025, opposition politician Jacob Ngarivhume posted a series of updates on X, outlining what he claimed to have heard from Sikhala’s wife.

Introducing the claims, Ngarivhume wrote:

“While Job was at a meeting last night, one of his hosts asked to check something in his car. He took the keys and then went away.”

He added:

“He returned after thirty minutes and asked that they all leave the meeting for it was getting late. Job then got into the car he was using. As they were on their way, police stopped them and searched their car.”

Ngarivhume continued in the same thread:

“They found planted explosives and he was arrested and is in Pretoria at a local police station.”

Allegations Of A Cross-Border Set-Up

Friends of Sikhala told ZimLive that they believed the politician had been lured into a meeting by individuals promising financial support. One unnamed associate allegedly said the group claimed to represent a party linked to Joseph Kabila in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The unnamed associate was quoted as saying:

“He got a call from people who introduced themselves as members of Joseph Kabila’s party from the Democratic Republic of Congo who wanted to assist his efforts to restore democracy in Zimbabwe.”

The associate added that Sikhala attended the meeting on this basis and was confronted by police shortly afterwards.

Pictures circulating online on 7 November 2025 appear to show Sikhala in handcuffs, sitting on a roadside barrier beside an elderly man who was reportedly travelling with him. Another widely shared image appears to show what is said to be a yellow plastic bag containing explosives.

Legal Response And Awaiting Official Confirmation

Following the arrest, Ngarivhume said lawyers had been mobilised from both Zimbabwe and South Africa.

He wrote:

“Lawyers have been dispatched from Zimbabwe to help him on the case. South African lawyers are already on the case.”

As of the afternoon of 7 November 2025, no formal communication had been issued by South African law enforcement confirming the charges, the type of explosives allegedly found, or the exact circumstances of the search.

Sikhala is expected to appear before a magistrate in Pretoria in the coming days. No court date has officially been released.
