Kaizer Chiefs Legend Itumeleng Khune Disappointed Over Nasreddine Nabi’s Departure
Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune has voiced his frustration over the club’s decision to part company with head coach Nasreddine Nabi.
The Tunisian coach, who led Amakhosi to their first piece of silverware in a decade by winning last season’s Nedbank Cup, confirmed to media in North Africa that his spell with Chiefs has come to an end.

Khune Believes Nabi Deserved More Time
Reflecting on Nasreddine Nabi’s departure, Khune said he felt the coach had been laying solid foundations for a stronger Kaizer Chiefs side. He explained that Nabi was “building a well-oiled machine” and argued that the Tunisian should have been afforded more time to see his project through.
“I wish they could have given him more time because you can see he was building a well-oiled machine, so it’s just unfortunate that things didn’t go well for him,” Khune said.
Nabi’s Legacy Will Be Remembered
Khune admitted it was disappointing to see Nabi’s time at Kaizer Chiefs cut short but acknowledged the realities of football, where both players and coaches rarely stay forever. He praised the Tunisian for making the most of his opportunity, highlighting how Nabi delivered silverware in his very first season. According to Khune, that achievement alone ensures the coach will always be remembered by the Amakhosi faithful.
“It’s just an unfortunate situation. I would have loved to see him continue with the club, but again, Kaizer Chiefs are in business. Players and coaches know that they won’t be at the club forever, but it’s very important that when you are given an opportunity, you give it your all. And Coach Nabi did that. In his first season you won silverware and people will forever remember him for that,” Khune added.
Chiefs Yet to Make It Official
While the Soweto giants have not issued a formal statement, Nabi’s absence from the dugout in recent matches has only fuelled speculation. In the meantime, assistants Cedric Kaze and Youssef Ben Khalil have stepped in, but are still without a win heading into this weekend’s CAF Confederation Cup tie against Angola’s Kabuscorp SCP.
