Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef explained why he dropped Given Msimango.
The former TS Galaxy captain did not start against Mages FC on Wednesday. The match took place at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Ben Youssef said he rotated players to manage their workload.
“As I said, we don’t depend on one player. It’s a big squad, and we have to rotate,” he told the media after the game.
Rotation Strategy and Player Management
He further clarified the reasoning behind the decision.
“Sometimes it’s about prevention, and sometimes it’s the workload. So the decision was made last week, and we knew that [Inacio] Miguel would play this game.
That’s the plan that we prepared, and we are proud because every player who came to pitch helped. Miguel also performed very well today [Wednesday]. Last week it was Given [Msimango]. So sometimes we need to make rotations,” Ben Youssef concluded.
Defensive Choices and Future Uncertainty
Msimango returned this season after two years on the sidelines. He played six matches in the second half of the campaign.
However, Inacio Miguel partnered Aden McCarthy in defence on Wednesday. This pair has been the preferred centre-back combination this season.
With seven matches remaining, Msimango’s future remains uncertain. His contract will expire at the end of the season.
