Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Adolf Mtasingwa Bitegeko has earned a glowing comparison from former Tanzania national team coach Adel Amrouche, who believes the Amakhosi recruit shares qualities with French World Cup winner Paul Pogba.
The 27-year-old is still waiting for his debut in Chiefs colours. However, Amrouche remains convinced the Soweto giants have secured a top-quality midfielder. Bitegeko became the club’s third signing this transfer window after Renaldo Leaner and Thabo Moloisane.
“He has good height, plays with simplicity and doesn’t complicate his life on the pitch,” Amrouche said as per GOAL.
“He can be even better if he finds an environment where he’s trusted and managed well.
“He’s like Pogba. Adolf has a nice passing range.”
Prince Dube backs Bitegeko to shine at Kaizer Chiefs
Former Azam FC teammate Prince Dube also praised Bitegeko’s qualities. Moreover, he believes the midfielder has the attributes to succeed in the Premier Soccer League.
“He’s a typical defensive midfielder who sits in front of the defence and protects the back four well.
“I think he’ll fit in very well at Kaizer Chiefs.
“He needs to adjust because South African football is quicker, but his passing is very good,” Dube added.
Bitegeko faces competition for a starting place
Bitegeko has built experience across Europe and Africa. He previously featured for KR Reykjavik, Keflavik, and Volsungur IF. In addition, he enjoyed short spells in Norway and Finland.
The midfielder joined Azam in 2024 and quickly established himself as one of Tanzania’s standout performers. As a result, Kaizer Chiefs moved to secure his signature.
Nevertheless, earning a regular starting role will not come easily. Bitegeko must compete with Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Siphesihle Ndlovu for the holding midfield position.
Meanwhile, supporters could see him in action soon. He is in line to make his first appearance when Kaizer Chiefs face Scotland FC in the Toyota Cup this weekend.
