Monique Muller, the former partner of well-known television host Katlego Maboe, has been arrested after a police operation in Ravensmead, Cape Town. The raid, which took place last Sunday, led to the alleged discovery of an unlicensed firearm in her possession. Muller, alongside several other individuals, was formally charged and has already made an initial appearance before a magistrate at the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court. The case has been postponed for further investigation.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, confirmed the arrest and its connection to broader police initiatives. He stated,
“She was charged with unlawfully possessing a firearm alongside other suspects and made an appearance at the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court. The matter was placed on remand until October 30.”

When pressed for comment on the nature of the operation, Sergeant Twigg affirmed that the bust was linked to ongoing efforts to combat gang-related activities in the area. Muller has remained in custody since her arrest, and her legal representatives have thus far declined to issue any public statement on the charges she faces.

This recent legal trouble has thrust Muller back into the public eye, a place she knows all too well from her previous, highly publicised relationship with Maboe. Their acrimonious split in 2020 became one of the most talked-about scandals in Mzansi, captivating the nation. The television personality, however, consistently and vehemently denied these claims. In a robust counter-action, Maboe initiated a defamation lawsuit against Muller and her family, seeking damages of R1 million. He contended that the false accusations had systematically dismantled his successful career and tarnished his public reputation. In one of his legal letters from 2021, he insisted that the allegations had “damaged and destroyed his career,” a claim substantiated by his subsequent removal from his presenting role on The Expresso Show and the abrupt termination of his lucrative advertising contract with OUTsurance.

During the peak of the scandal, Muller was hailed by many as a courageous voice for survivors of gender-based violence. She sought to reignite that very conversation as recently as last year, returning to social media to post images of her past injuries and to critique media outlets that, in her view, “celebrate abusers.” In a since-deleted Instagram story that was widely circulated, she expressed her frustration with the judicial system, writing, “Evidence is not enough; the system protects them.” Her current predicament starkly contrasts with her previous position as a public advocate, leaving many to ponder the latest developments in a saga that continues to captivate the nation.
