Khuzani Mpungose Set To Headline King Mzilikazi Celebrations, Bulawayo After-Party

South African Maskandi star Khuzani Mpungose, popularly known as Khuba, is set to make his first visit to Zimbabwe when he attends the King Mzilikazi commemorations in Matobo next month.

The celebrated musician will join thousands of people at Entumbane on September 4 and 5 as communities gather to celebrate the life and legacy of King Mzilikazi kaMashobana.

The event honours the founder of the Ndebele nation and seeks to preserve the history, traditions and cultural identity associated with his legacy.

Khuzani Excited For First Zimbabwe Trip

For Khuzani, the visit will be more than a musical appearance.

Speaking to The Chronicle, Khuzani said that he was grateful for the invitation and sees the commemorations as an opportunity to deepen his understanding of Ndebele history and culture.

It’s a great honour for me to be invited to be part of Umgubho weNkosi uMzilikazi kaMashobana. I have learnt a lot about him through history, and it is a privilege to be one of those attending this year’s celebrations,” said Khuzani.

The Maskandi star said he was particularly interested in learning about the traditions and way of life of the Ndebele people in Zimbabwe.

“I am eager to learn more about the history of the Ndebele people. What I know is that we are one people, and it will be an exciting moment for me to be in Zimbabwe. I am looking forward to learning about the way of life and how we connect with the Ndebele people,” he said.

Bulawayo Concert To Follow Commemorations

Khuzani will continue his Zimbabwe visit with a performance in Bulawayo after the commemorations.

He is scheduled to headline an after-party on September 5, where he will perform alongside local Maskandi musician Zwelihle Jele.

Seasoned poet Lerato Nwindi and Gwanda-based artiste Umfanomsuthu will also feature at the event.

Khuzani said cultural events such as the King Mzilikazi commemorations were important in bringing African communities together.

He believes such gatherings can strengthen cultural bonds while encouraging people to reconnect with their shared heritage.
