Killer Visits Sangoma Seeking Protection After Brutal Lions’ Den Double Murder
A suspected killer allegedly visited a traditional healer seeking spiritual protection after brutally murdering an elderly couple in Lions’ Den, Mashonaland West, in a chilling case that has left a quiet farming community reeling in shock.
The gruesome double murder of Norbert Tayero and his wife, Petronella, at their Sangwe farm has revealed disturbing details, including claims that the suspect sought cleansing rituals to escape avenging spirits before fleeing with stolen property.
The police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect.
Suspect Allegedly Planned Attack And Lured Worker Away
According to The Herald, the suspect, identified as Farai Chatikobo (40), was a relatively new worker at the farm and allegedly planned the attack carefully.
A fellow employee, Jairos Dani, described how the suspect allegedly removed him from the homestead shortly before the killings.
“I was with him at the bar, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. He bought me a beer and we chatted as usual,” said Dani.
“I later went back home and slept, thinking the old couple had travelled because their car was not there.”
Dani said he only realised something was wrong when people forced entry into the house.
“I had no idea they were lying dead inside. It is something that will haunt me for the rest of my life.”
Authorities say the suspect allegedly returned under cover of darkness and murdered the elderly couple in what appeared to be a calculated attack.
Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Ian Kohwera confirmed the incident and said investigations were ongoing.
However, more details could not yet be released.
Sangoma Reveals Suspect’s Late Night Confession
The case took a dramatic turn when the suspect allegedly visited a traditional healer in Shackleton seeking spiritual protection.
Traditional healer Jonasi Tshuma described the chilling encounter.
“He came to me late at night and initially claimed he wanted help for his brother in Mazowe, whom he said had killed someone,” said Tshuma.
“He was seeking cleansing rituals to protect against ngozi, but his story kept changing. He later admitted that he was the one who needed cleansing, saying he had killed Mrs Tayero.”
Tshuma said he became alarmed and decided to alert authorities.
“I realised this was a serious matter, so I played along while I alerted the authorities through the local councillor.”
He then told the suspect to return at around 5am, buying time for authorities to act.
Local councillor Innocent Mangwanya confirmed receiving the alert.
“I was alerted by the traditional healer that the suspect had confessed to committing murder and was seeking protection.”
“I immediately contacted the police so we could act quickly before he escaped.”
However, the suspect allegedly evaded capture despite a roadblock being set up.
“We worked with the police and mounted a roadblock, but unfortunately, he managed to evade capture.”
Bodies Found In Pools Of Blood As Community Gathers
Mangwanya said they later went to the homestead where the bodies were discovered.
“We found the worker sleeping, not knowing what had happened.”
“We had to force entry into the house, and that is when we discovered the bodies.”
The couple were found lying in pools of blood inside their home.
The suspect allegedly fled with a Nissan Note, livestock and household property.
The brutal killings sent shockwaves through the farming community, with villagers gathering in large numbers.
At the funeral, community members described the couple as devoted Christians known for generosity and kindness.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect and appealed for information.
Authorities continue investigating the incident.
