Police Identify Three More Victims As Death Toll Remains At 97
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the identities of three more people who died in the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA) boat accident on Lake Kariba.
The latest identification brings the number of victims whose identities have been confirmed by their next of kin to 96.
However, the overall death toll remains at 97, with one victim still awaiting identification.

Three More Victims Identified
The three newly identified victims are Wilson Parare Musaka, 74, Nyarai Fununo, 44, and seven-year-old Lynol Samanyanga.
Musaka was a resident of Nyamhunga 2 in Kariba.
Fununo was from Kapandura Village under Chief Mola in Kariba.
Samanyanga was a juvenile from 2197 Batonga, Kariba.
Police released the names in an update following their previous statement issued on August 19, 2026.

One Victim Still Unidentified
Despite the latest confirmations, police said one victim from the tragedy has not yet been identified.
The development comes as authorities continue efforts to establish the identities of all those who died in the accident.
The ZRP has urged families with missing relatives to contact authorities if they believe their loved ones may have been travelling on the ill-fated boat.
Mbuya Nehanda Ferry Brought Ashore After Fatal Capsizing
Meanwhile, the wrecked RIDA Mbuya Nehanda ferry has been recovered from Lake Kariba and brought back to the mainland after the disaster that claimed 97 lives.
The vessel was pulled from the water during a salvage operation and transported towards the mainland using specialised recovery equipment.
Pictures and videos taken during the operation show the ferry’s damaged blue hull, with its identification markings still visible.
A large salvage vessel fitted with a crane and gantry system was used to secure and move the wreckage.
Other boats could be seen in the vicinity as the recovery operation continued on the lake.
